Nasarawa Judicial Service Commission fires 5, suspends 3 over misconduct

The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission has approved the dismissal of five judicial officers and the suspension of three others, including a Magistrate, for various offenses.

This decision was made as part of efforts to sensitize and improve the judicial system in the state.

According to the Executive Secretary of the State Judicial Service Commission, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, the dismissed staff include Alhmed Murabus and Mohammed Abdullahi, who absconded from their duty posts for over four and two years, respectively.

The other three dismissed staff are Bawa Maikeffi, Emmanuel Ombugadu, and Success Redeem Ayuba.

Maikeffi, Ombugadu, and Ayuba were found guilty of conniving with the police to detain lawful citizens during a nationwide strike, fraudulently issuing an ex parte order, and forging a judge’s signature, as well as convicting someone of criminal breach of trust, respectively.

Additionally, Magistrate Ayuba Enjugu was found guilty of signing a court order without reading its contents.

The Executive Secretary stated that the Commission’s decisions aim to strengthen professionalism, accountability, growth, and quality service delivery within the judiciary.

In a related development, the Commission approved the promotion of 482 staff members of the State Judiciary and ratified the appointments of four judicial officers after a thorough review of their performance.

Shafa charged the promoted and appointed officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. (Weekend Trust)
