Venue of the 2-days PDP National Convention
The Oyo State Police Command has announced security measures ahead of the 2025 Peoples Democratic Party National Convention scheduled for Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
In a statement shared on X on Friday and dated November 13, 2025, and e-signed by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Osifeso Adewale, the police said they are “ramping up security measures to guarantee a safe and peaceful event,” noting that the convention is expected to attract “key political figures, international observers, media representatives, guests, and participants from across the nation.”
According to the statement, the Command has developed “a robust security strategy” in partnership with other security agencies, ahead of a large turnout.
The strategy, it said, includes “proactive patrols designed to build public confidence, increased surveillance activities, and intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations throughout the state.”
Security will be even tighter at entry and exit points into Oyo State, especially around Adamasingba.
The Command stated that “critical locations such as public parks, train stations, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan will be closely monitored.”
To avoid mobility disruptions during the two-day event, police are urging residents to adjust their movement plans.
“We encourage members of the public to explore alternative routes from the venue in a bid to prevent any potential disruptions in their movement plans for the period in view,” the statement said.
The Command also issued a firm warning against acts capable of disturbing public peace during the period.
It cautioned that “any forms of public unrest, including unauthorised rallies or gatherings within the city before, during, or after the event” will not be tolerated.
Reassuring residents, the police emphasised their commitment to protecting lives and property.
“To ensure the safety of all individuals and property during this crucial convention, the Oyo State Police Command urges the community to comply with all guidelines and help cultivate a peaceful atmosphere during this important occasion,” it said.
The Command also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant. It urged the public “to report any suspicious activities or concerns to the nearest police station or through the dedicated emergency contact numbers provided by the police.”
Members of the public can reach the Oyo State Call Response Center via the toll-free line 615, or contact the Police Command Control Room on 08081768614, 09054133071, and 09061299291, the release noted. (The PUNCH)
