Nigeria U-20 Women’s national team, the Falconets, beat Ghana’s Black Princesses 3-0 on Tuesday in the reverse fixture in the ongoing U-20 WAFU-B Girls Cup at the Stade Omnisports d’ Adjohoun in Benin.

The win gives Nigeria the double over Ghana after winning 3-1 in the opening game.

The falconets started their campaign on a bright note, defeating Ghana’s Black Princesses 3-1, in their opening match on Thursday and then beating hosts Benin Republic 3-0, in their second match on Sunday, 9.

Janet Akekoromomei, Alaba Olabiyi, and Ramotalahi Kareem seal Nigeria’s triumph with a game to spare.

Nigeria’s Falconets delivered yet another commanding performance as they swept aside Ghana in a one-sided encounter, underlining their growing dominance in the tournament.

From the outset, the Nigerian side exuded confidence and control, dictating the tempo with crisp passing and relentless attacking play.

Forward Akekoromowei produced a moment of brilliance, curling a long-range free-kick beyond the Ghanaian goalkeeper to give Nigeria a deserved lead in the 17th minute.

Barely seven minutes later, Alaba Olabiyi reacted quickest inside the box to bundle home from close range after a deft headed assist from a teammate, doubling the Falconets’ advantage and deflating the Ghanaian resistance.

The young Nigerians continued to dominate possession, combining precision, pace, and power as they pinned Ghana deep in their own half.

After the break, the Falconets maintained their momentum. At the 61st minute , Kareem connected superbly with a teasing cross from Akekoromowei to make it 3–0, effectively sealing the contest.

The goal was Kareem’s third of the tournament, bringing her level with Akekoromowei at the top of the scoring charts and highlighting the Falconets attacking depth and consistency.

The result leaves Nigeria on nine points from three matches, and rounding off the group phase against Benin Republic on Wednesday

It was also sweet revenge for the Falconets, who lost to Ghana on penalties in the final of the inaugural edition two years ago.

It was another statement victory from Nigeria’s rising stars composed, ruthless, and full of intent as they continue their march toward continental glory.

The round-robin format of the tournament means each of the three teams – Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin – will face one another twice.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2025 WAFU Zone B Under-20 Girls’ Cup started on Nov. 7 to end on Nov. 12, with just three participating nations -Nigeria, Ghana, and hosts Benin Republic.

The tournament serves as a crucial developmental platform for identifying new talents and preparing national squads for upcoming CAF and FIFA youth competitions. (NAN)
