Germany invites 10 Nigerian students

Ten students from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have been awarded scholarships to visit Germany and spend ten days learning about German culture.

In a statement made available to Diaspora Tales on Thursday, Dr Ezekiel Olagunju of the Department of Foreign Languages said the benefits would encourage Nigerians to study German.

Olagunju, a German lecturer of the department, also stated that the scholarship was based on the existing Memorandum of Understanding between OAU and the University of Freiburg in Germany.

While speaking on the sponsorship, the don said Germany was battling a shortage of workers, and the initiative was to attract more Nigerians to learn German and choose to work in the European country.

“More than 30,000 workers are needed yearly in Germany. Nigerians can also profit from this opportunity if they are aware of the centrality of the knowledge of the language in this globalised era,” he said.

The lecturer added that all the recipients were in their final year. (PUNCH)
