The Light of the Nation state, Anambra is experiencing a total lockdiwn with tight security and fierce looking society officers manning the roads as over 2,8 million registered voters head to their various voting booth to vote their preferred choice of candidate.
Candidates at the center stage who voters would be choosing from include, the incumbent Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, George Moghalu of the Labour Party, LP, Nicholas Ukachukwu, All Progressives Congress, APC, Jude Ezenwafor, (PDP), Paul Chukwuma, (YPP), among others.
Recall that over 45,000 security personnel drawn from the Police, Navy,Army, DSS, NSCDC and other agencies have been deployed across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun to help secure polling centers, collation zones and bother communities with Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle in charge until election is concluded.
CP Shogunle had earlier on assumption of office said that the joint operation will ensure "no breach of peace or movement of political thugs."
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has confirmed full readiness with logistics, BVAS devices and election materials distributed accordingly across the state, even as it confirmed that the PVC collection reached 98.8%, indicating high voter interest.
However, despite the strong security presence, there are concerns that there may be incidents of voter apathy and vote buying as the candidates all see themselves already as winners.
Observers on their part, describe today as major test for the INEC new sheriff, Prof Joash Amputan (SAN).
