The All Progressives Congress (APC) has swept the just-concluded Niger State Local Government Council elections, winning all 25 chairmanship seats across the state.
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) officially confirmed the results, describing the polls as “credible, transparent, and reflective of the people’s will.”
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Mohammed Liman, NSIEC said all Returning Officers had concluded collation and declaration of results in line with the Electoral Law and the Commission’s operational guidelines.
“After careful review, the Commission approved and ratified the results, confirming the duly elected chairmen and councillors who satisfied all legal requirements,” Liman stated.
According to the list released, APC candidates won in all 25 Local Government Areas, including Agaie, Bida, Kontagora, Lapai, Bosso, Chanchaga, Wushishi, and others.
Among the newly elected chairmen are Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie), Usman Mohammed (Bida), Mustapha Jibrin (Chanchaga), Lawal Yusuf (Kontagora), and Mohammed Lokogoma (Wushishi).
The results showed significant margins between the leading party and its closest rivals across several local governments. In Bosso, the APC polled 29,140 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded 6,039 votes.
Similar patterns were seen in Gbako (32,310 vs 7,363 PDP), Suleja (61,877 vs 1,146 SDP), and Lapai (43,604 vs 2,639 SDP and 1,429 PDP).
In Bida, APC garnered 40,868 votes compared to PDP’s 8,386, while in Chanchaga, the party scored 25,340 votes, leaving PDP, SDP, and the Labour Party far behind with 10,216, 1,137, and 313 votes, respectively.
Across the northern part of the state, APC maintained commanding leads in Kontagora (25,154 vs 7,164 PDP), Borgu (44,248 vs 3,172 PDP), and Mariga (25,485 vs 6,662 PDP). Other results include Lavun (53,257 vs 1,340 PDP), Mokwa (27,100 vs 11,210 PDP), and Edati (20,414 vs 8,553 PDP).
For the councillorship seats, NSIEC ratified the results declared by ward Returning Officers across the 274 wards.
The APC secured 271 councillorship seats, while the PDP won two, one each in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas.
Liman congratulated all elected officials and urged them to remain transparent, accountable, and service-driven in discharging their duties.
He also appreciated the cooperation of security agencies, political parties, observers, the media, IPAC, ALGON, and voters for ensuring the success of the elections.
NSIEC announced that Certificates of Return would be presented to the newly elected officials as scheduled, adding that stakeholders would be duly informed of the presentation date. (CHANNELS)
