Zimbabwean strongwoman Chido Maenzanise has been crowned Africa’s Strongest Woman after powering to victory at the Eastrand Strongest competition held in South Africa on Saturday, 25 October 2025. Her triumph has now secured her a place at the World’s Strongest competition, marking another historic moment for Zimbabwean sport.
Maenzanise faced 12 challengers in the Open Category, going head-to-head in gruelling events such as the lever deadlift, vehicle push, circus dumbbell, dinner stones, and the log ladder. She emerged victorious, raising the Zimbabwean flag with pride.
Speaking after her win, Maenzanise told Zim Now:
“I’m feeling happy and excited because I was the only black woman competing. At first, I wasn’t comfortable, and I didn’t do well in my first performance.”
She explained that her motivation came from representing her nation.
“But then I remembered that I wasn’t just doing this for myself — I was doing it for my beloved nation, Zimbabwe. I was the only one representing the country, so I had to push hard. And I’m happy I brought home the gold.”
She added that she had prepared thoroughly ahead of the competition, saying she had entered “well trained and well prepared.
News of her victory sparked excitement online. Kyros Sports posted:
“A huge congratulations to Chido Maenzanise on earning the title of Africa’s strongest woman. Well done!! Zim’s Strong Woman is now ranked 21 in the world.”
The Sports and Recreation Commission of Zimbabwe (SRC) also joined in the celebrations, writing:
“Zimbabwe’s Chido Maenzanise won the title of Africa’s Strongest at the Africa Strongman championships held in South Africa over the weekend. She has qualified for the World’s Strongest competition. Congratulations, Chido!”
This latest achievement cements Maenzanise’s legacy as a trailblazer for women in sport and as one of Zimbabwe’s most remarkable athletes. With the world title now in her sights, she continues to inspire the next generation of competitors across the continent. (Harare)
