Armed men in viral video vigilantes, not bandits – Jigawa police

The Jigawa State Police Command has dismissed a viral video suggesting that armed bandits stormed Dutse, the state capital, describing the footage as misleading and false.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, clarified in a statement on Thursday that investigations showed the men seen riding motorcycles with weapons in the video were members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation — hunters and vigilantes from Bauchi State.

“The riders were returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, Ringim Local Government Area, when someone filmed them,” Adam explained. “They carried traditional gear such as Dane guns, bows, and arrows — not sophisticated bandit weapons.”

He described the social media claims as “entirely false, misleading, and mischievous,” warning that such misinformation could create unnecessary panic.”

“The command urges members of the public to disregard the video and remain calm,” the statement read. “Jigawa remains one of the most peaceful states in the North-West region.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, also appealed for calm, assuring residents that the state remains safe.

“People should go about their lawful activities without fear,” he said, commending residents for their cooperation and vigilance. “We encourage everyone to report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.”

The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining the peace for which Jigawa is known. (PUNCH)
