Nigerian coach sentenced to 8 years in prison for homosexuality

A Kano State High Court has sentenced one Hayatu Mohammed, a football team coach in Kano to eight years imprisonment without an option of fine after finding him guilty of committing sodomy against one of his players.

The convict, a resident of Sanka quarters of Dala LGA of the state, was found to have committed the offence twice at different locations.

Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Arif Garba, presented five witnesses who testified against the defendant.

The Presiding Judge said the evidence presented during the trial showed that the defendant committed the offence, therefore, he sentenced him to four years for each of the counts, emphasising that the offence contravened section 284 of Penal Court Code Law.

He also ordered that the sentences should run concurrently, beginning from the day of the judgment. (Daily Trust, excluding headline)
