Dala Inland Dry Port: Kano probes alleged diversion of N4bn funds

The Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano State

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has launched an investigation into alleged diversion of over N4 billion of the state fund to Dala Inland Dry Port after the state was shortchanged of its equity at the multi-billion naira investment by the former administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.

Over N4 billion was allegedly utilized in the award of a contract to provide infrastructure for the inland port project, shortly after the 20 per cent equity of Kano State at the company had been converted to the immediate past governor’s family in the year 2020.

The equity transfer was alleged to have edged Kano State out of the project’s ownership and positioned the ex-governor’s children as directors and shareholders.

It was also alleged that by the time the contract was awarded, the state was no longer a co-owner of the port.

It was reliably gathered that the state anti-graft agency investigation into the over N4 billion alleged fund diversion was initiated following petitions received by the commission against the misappropriation.

However, confirming the development to newsmen on Sunday, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Mr. Saidu Yahya, said the investigation into the alleged diversion of the state fund into the company has reached a top level and is almost concluded.

“Yes, we received petitions from the public on the alleged over N4 billion Kano State fund diverted into the Dala Inland Dry Port by the immediate past administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.”

“So far, persons of interest have been invited; one of them was arrested and later released on bail, after giving vital information, while investigation revealed that one of the parties is now in Yola, Adamawa State, ‘’the Chairman said.

He added that the matter would soon be charged to court after investigation, as a prima facie case has been established. (The PUNCH)
