Former NFL star and current sports broadcaster, Mark Sanchez, is hospitalized in Indianapolis after a stabbing left him with serious injuries, according to FOX Sports and other reports.

FOX Sports confirmed the former Jets quarterback was recovering in the hospital in stable condition as of 10:49 a.m. Saturday.

“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support,” read the organization’s statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

Details are limited, but ESPN reports Sanchez was stabbed early morning on Saturday. According to TMZ, it happened around 12:30 a.m. in a downtown area.

TMZ said police responded to a call reporting two people had been injured after a stabbing. “We’re told Sanchez was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition,” TMZ reported. No further information was immediately available.

According to ESPN, Sanchez was scheduled to be part of the broadcast crew for Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, but said he will no longer work the game.

Sanchez, 38, played eight seasons in the NFL after being selected fifth overall by the New York Jets in the 2009 draft out of the University of Southern California.
