A middle-aged man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, has reportedly stabbed his grandparents to death in Kano State after an altercation that subsequently spiked aggression.

The tragic incident ensued when Ibrahim, 30 years old, at his Kofar Dawanau Quarters, had a misunderstanding with his 75-year-old grandfather and 65-year-old grandmother over a plate of food.

The suspected murderer was said to have pulled out a sharp knife to inflict several injuries on his grandparents, Muhammad Dansokoto and Hadiza Tasidi, and subsequently fled the family house.

A statement by the Kano Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, which confirmed the ugly incident, revealed that Ibrahim is already in custody.

According to Kiyawa, the tragic case of culpable homicide reported at Dala Divisional Police Headquarters, Kano, will soon be taken to court.

“On September 25, 2025, at about 09:30 a.m., a resident of Kofar Dawanau Quarters reported that one Mutawakilu Ibrahim (m), aged 30, had a quarrel with his grandparents, Muhammad Dansokoto (m), aged 75, and Hadiza Tasidi (f), aged 65, over a food-related disagreement.

“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies, causing severe injuries. The victims were immediately rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel. Their corpses were examined and later released to their relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

“The alleged culprit, suspected to be under the influence of intoxicants, has been arrested. Based on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori PhD SFIPMA MNIM MNIPS, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for discreet investigation, while the case will be charged to court,” Kiyawa said.
