The suspects
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested five suspects for alleged criminal conspiracy, abetment, and possession of motorcycles intended to facilitate banditry in the state.
The arrest, which the police described as a “major breakthrough” in the fight against violent crimes, was made on September 18, 2025, by a joint patrol team of officers and vigilantes led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kamba Division, Bello Lawal.
According to a statement made available to newsmen on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, the suspects identified as 37-year-old Saifullahi Suleiman, 26-year-old Halidu Adamu, 37-year-old Ibrahim Abubakar, and 22-year-old Sani Kabiru, all residents of Kamba town in Dandi Local Government Area, were found in possession of three Honda motorcycles, popularly known as Boko Haram motorcycles.
“The motorcycles, worth ?5.4 million, were reportedly purchased from Benin Republic and intended to be delivered to the Lakurawa terrorist group through a yet-to-be-identified accomplice from Kangiwa town, Arewa LGA,” Abubakar stated.
The spokesperson said that while the investigation was ongoing, he revealed that one Mubarak Ladan attempted to bribe the DPO with N600,000 to secure their release but he was apprehended
“During investigation, another suspect, 28-year-old Mubarak Ladan of Kamba town, allegedly offered a ?600,000 bribe to the DPO in a bid to secure the release of the arrested men.
“He was immediately apprehended, and the money recovered as evidence,” Abubakar stated.
Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department, Birnin Kebbi, to intensify efforts to track down other suspects linked to the case.
Commending the Kamba DPO and vigilante members for their professionalism and courage, Sani urged other divisional heads in the state to replicate such dedication.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks along Kebbi’s borders to ensure peace and security for residents.
Sani also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to create a crime-free environment. (The PUNCH)
