Safety and Security Consultant, Dr Timi Ajayi
Nigerians have been advised to avoid overloading electrical sockets and put in place fire safety measures in each building to prevent fire accidents.
A Safety and Security Consultant, Dr Timi Ajayi, gave the advice while featuring on a Radio Nigeria One, Lagos, breakfast show earlier today, Monday, September 22, 2025.
Dr Ajayi, a faculty member and an examiner with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), who frowned at state governments’ reactive measures rather than preventive measures. He advocated regular enforcement of safety precautionary measures in high rise buildings.
While emphasising the need for aggressive awareness and sensitization by the media and government, the Safety and Security Consultant urged anyone caught in a fire incident “to squat and cover their nose and mouth to prevent inhalation of smoke.”
Dr Ajayi appealed to the Lagos State Government to conduct vulnerability tests of buildings across the metropolis and engage safety professionals for disaster management.
