Maj - Gen Moses Gara, Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke OPWS
The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, has said troops under his command can now identify and monitor criminal activities from as far as 3,000 metres using newly acquired drone technology.
Gara made the disclosure on Thursday in Makurdi while declaring closed a Basic Drone Operation and Jammer System Training organized for officers and soldiers within the OPWS Area of Responsibility.
He said the technology would strengthen the force’s capacity in surveillance, search and rescue, and force protection, stressing that the innovation would give OPWS a decisive edge against adversaries.
“There are criminals in our society who continually engage in activities that threaten peace and security, leading to needless loss of innocent lives. With these drones, we can effectively identify their hideouts and take appropriate action,” Gara said.
The Commander commended the Chief of Army Staff for approving the acquisition of drones and facilitating the training, while appreciating other senior officers and the instructors for their support. (Daily Trust)
