Gov Yusuf Kabir in the midst of jubilant Kano students

Kano State has emerged as the top-performing state in the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano state disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on by his Spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.
The governor attributed the impressive feat to the education reforms and sustained investment in the sector by his administration.
According to him, in the results released by NECO, 68,159 candidates secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics in the state.
The Governor assured that his administration would continue to prioritize provision of free uniforms, furniture and learning materials for pupils, students as well as rehabilitation of dilapidated classrooms.
He added that his administration would continue to recruit and train teachers to enhance performance.
The governor recalled that the state allocated 31 per cent of its 2025 annual budget to education, demonstrating its commitment to achieving strategic reforms in the sector
Yusuf lauded the contributions of stakeholders in the sector, to the recorded success and the overall reform of education in the state.
“Our reforms are clearly yielding results, and this outstanding performance by our students proves that Kano is on the right path,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NECO on Wednesday released the 2025 SSCE results, 54 days after the last written paper.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, who announced the release of the results in Minna, Niger State, had said that out of the 1,358,339 candidates who sat for the June/July exercise, 818,492, representing 60.26 per cent, scored five credits and above, including Mathematics and English. (NAN)
