The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has gone spiritual in support of government efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.

Speaking during a special prayer session at his palace on Thursday, the monarch expressed concern over the worsening insecurity across the country.

He thanked governments at all levels for their determination to curb the menace.

He explained that the prayer was organized to seek divine intervention for security agencies and government institutions working to safeguard lives and property in Kwara and Nigeria.

Leading the session, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Dr. Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih, prayed for peace, unity, and social harmony across the state and the country.

He committed the people into the hands of Almighty Allah for protection, guidance, and prosperity.

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Adekimi Ojo, attended the prayer alongside top government representatives, traditional chiefs, Islamic scholars, community associations, and political leaders from across the Ilorin Emirate.

Daily Trust reports that although relatively calmer compared to some neighbouring states, Kwara has in recent months witnessed a disturbing rise in insecurity.

Kidnapping for ransom has become a recurring threat in communities such as Oro-Ago, Ekiti, Patigi, and Kaiama, with several abductions of farmers, travellers, and schoolchildren reported, forcing many rural dwellers to live in fear.

The state government, in collaboration with local vigilantes, hunters, and the military, has recorded some successes following intensified operations against bandits.

Community leaders, however, continue to call for more security deployments to reinforce existing efforts. (Daily Trust)
