Mr Peter Obi
The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government to restructure Nigeria’s security framework.
According to him, the federal government can achieve this by granting governors more control over combating insecurity across the states.
Reacting to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State’s lamentation that he knows the exact locations of bandit leaders but lacks the authority to act, Obi described the situation as a “stark reflection of the systemic weakness of our security architecture.”
On his verified X handle late Saturday, Obi said it was unacceptable for the Chief Security Officer of a state to be reduced to a “mere spectator” while citizens are left at the mercy of criminals.
“I have repeatedly called for a restructuring of our security framework to make it more responsive, decentralised, and effective.
The Federal Government must, as a matter of urgency, give Governor Dauda and other governors across the federation all the support they need to secure their states and safeguard the lives of Nigerians,” Obi said.
He stressed that the protection of lives and property must be treated as the highest priority of governance. (Sunday Sun)
