Sprinter Favour Ofili
Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili has announced the end of her 2025 season and confirmed she will now represent Turkey, citing both pride in her past achievements for Nigeria and disappointment with athletics authorities.
In a post shared on her official Twitter handle, Ofili reflected on her year. “Wrapping up my 2025 season has been a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions. Racing back-to-back across amazing cities and learning from the best has been incredible,” she wrote.
The 200m Olympic finalist then confirmed her much-speculated switch. “As some of you have heard, I’m also starting a new chapter representing Turkey,” she announced.
Ofili expressed pride in her career wearing Nigeria’s colours, detailing her medal haul. “I am proud to have represented Nigeria for many years in a highly successful way! Having won SIX gold medals, TWO silver medals and TWO bronze medals in championship meets and a 200 meter Olympic finalist,” she said.
But she also voiced frustration at how she had been treated by Nigerian athletics authorities. “…while experiencing the biggest disappointment from AFN and NOC towards me,” she added, referring to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic Committee.
Her announcement closes a glittering chapter for Nigeria and opens a new phase in her career as she prepares to compete under Turkey’s flag. (AriseNews TV)
