Gunmen struck along the Rore-Arandun highway in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing two people.
The hoodlums first targeted the residence of a businessman, Mr Oyetoyan Dare, in the early hours of Friday.
His private security guard, Mr Wale Ajiboye, 40, was reportedly shot dead while trying to resist their attempt to gain entry.
Shortly afterwards, the same gang reportedly ambushed a vehicle conveying farm produce from Ora in neighbouring Osun State.
The driver, Mr Taiye Yebi, 38, who was unaware of the ongoing incident, was shot as he drove past.
Another passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries, it was gathered in the incidents which allegedly occurred on Thursday.
Police operatives were later deployed to the scene where expended and live ammunition were recovered. The corpses of the victims have been deposited in a hospital morgue.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Friday said investigations had begun while patrols had been reinforced in the area to forestall a recurrence.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, had ordered a discreet probe and assured the public that normalcy had been restored. (Daily Trust)
