Unknown gunmen
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of one Police Inspector who was simply identified as O. O. Ojonogba, by suspected gunmen in Ughelli, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Inspector Ojonogba, popularly known as “Ade,” was attached to the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area, Hon. Dagidi Andaye. He was reportedly murdered in his sleep by unknown assailants who gained access to the chairman’s residence while the chairman was away on official duties in Asaba.
Sources told The Guardian that the gunmen broke into the compound around 3–4 a.m., gaining entry through the generator powerhouse while it was running. Once inside, they proceeded directly to the room of Inspector Ojonogba, attached to PMF 51, who was sleeping. He was shot in the neck at close range, killing him instantly.
The attackers then broke into the main house by destroying a burglar protector and entering through the dining section. They made their way to the children’s room, where they demanded valuables, including money and the mother’s jewellery.
The sources further said that the gunmen fired shots into the ceiling and walls, terrifying the children before making away with several mobile phones, two iPads, and a laptop.
“The robbers returned again, possibly in search of more gadgets, but left when they couldn’t find any more items,” a source familiar with the incident told The Guardian.
The children were left traumatised but physically unharmed. The lifeless body of Inspector Ojonogba was discovered shortly after the incident.
When contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the killing and said efforts are being made to track down the perpetrators. (The Guardian)
