The excavators on fire
Angry protesters barricaded the busy Rivers State Airport Road on Tuesday destroying vehicles and burning earth-moving equipment worth billions of naira over issues bordering on land grabbing.
The rioters seized the road and halted vehicular movement for hours causing panic around the area.
The protesters were seen setting about six excavators and swamp boogies ablaze in what many people said had become recurrent land grabbing along the Airport road.
The communities around the area such as Rumuosi, Rumuagholu and Rumuekini among others, were said to be in violent contests over sprawling parcels of land in the area.
The police were yet to officially respond to the development. (The Nation)
