By ITODO DANIEL SULE
A Nigerian lawyer from Sokoto State, Samira Ladan Tsamiya, has been selected for the prestigious International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA) secondment programme and will be joining the London office of Latham & Watkins, one of the world’s leading law firms.
According to an offer letter from the ILFA’s Board of Directors, the secondment programme is to run from August 30, 2025.
Samira is a cofounder and partner at Honoris Legal, a boutique Nigerian law firm specialising in energy and infrastructure.
She has supported and advised on several multimillion-dollar transactions in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, including products trading and financing, marginal field development, modular refinery acquisition, gas sector financing, concessions and joint ventures.
Samira also serves as the company secretary for Rano-Accrete Petroleum Development Company Ltd (RAPDC), the operator of Oloye Field.
Her legal career began at J-K Gadzama LLP, one of Nigeria’s top law firms, where she gained experience in commercial dispute resolution.
Her expertise spans complex contract negotiation and drafting, regulatory compliance, and strategic legal advisory.
She has also undertaken specialised training in international law, arbitration, and compliance monitoring, which enhances her cross-border advisory capabilities.
She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Abuja, Nigeria, and her doctoral thesis examined Nigeria’s legal and institutional framework for PPPs in infrastructure development.
She also holds an LLM from Durham University, UK, an LLB from Baze University, Nigeria, and has completed an MSc in Law and Finance at the University of Oxford. She earned top distinctions across her academic programmes and received several awards for academic excellence.
Beyond legal practice, Samira is passionate about education and community development.
She is the founder of a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting education in her home state.
Speaking on her selection, Samira said: “It is a great honour to represent Nigeria and especially my home state of Sokoto, on an international platform like ILFA.
“I hope this opportunity inspires young professionals from northern Nigeria to believe in their potential and aim globally.”(Daily Trust)
