NAF fighter jets in operation
At least 35 terrorists were killed when Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets bombarded them at their convergence point near the Nigeria–Cameroon border, where they reportedly planned to attack ground troops stationed at Kumshe, in Borno State.
The precision air strikes were carried out in the early hours of Saturday, August 23, NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed in a statement.
According to Ejodame, the strikes, which killed the terrorists at four identified areas where they had assembled, were executed after intelligence was received from several sources.
“Following the operation, communication was re-established with ground troops, who confirmed that the situation around their location had been stabilised,” he said.
He said the latest operation had demonstrated the NAF’s unwavering commitment to providing close air support to ground forces, while also disrupting terrorist logistics and movement corridors along the Northeast border regions.
Ejodame said the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, had sent a commendation message to the aircrew, praising their professionalism.
“The Chief of Air Staff reaffirmed that the NAF will sustain aggressive and intelligence-driven air operations to ensure the complete degradation of terrorist elements threatening Nigeria’s sovereignty,” the NAF’s spokesman said. (The Nation)
