Balmoral Group Promotions, in partnership with AK Promotions, has confirmed a world-class boxing spectacle to hold in Lagos on Independence Day. The event will stream live on DAZN.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the show will mark Oct. 1 with a historic display of big-time boxing for a global audience.
Nigeria’s premier promoter, former Olympian and World Champion Amir Khan, and Balmoral Group Promotions CEO Ezekiel Adamu, are the key sponsors behind the groundbreaking event.
They said the event would feature international icons and local talent, reflecting Nigeria’s pride and potential as a global hub for boxing entertainment.
The National Sports Commission of Nigeria has also endorsed the event.
Adamu said the Independence Day fight night represents a monumental step forward for African boxing.
“We are proud to showcase Nigeria’s immense talent and passion, celebrating our heritage and potential on a global stage,” Adamu said.
Amir Khan, CEO of AK Promotions, expressed excitement at the opportunity to spotlight Nigeria.
“This event will inspire a new generation, highlighting Nigerian boxers’ heart and skill alongside international stars. Lagos is ready to shine,” Khan said.
Cruiserweight contender Brandon Glanton (20-3, 17 KOs) will attempt to avenge his previous loss against Liverpool’s Rocky Fielding (30-3, 18 KOs).
Glanton said he is determined to settle the score.
“Our styles guarantee fireworks. I’m ready to prove I belong at the top. This fight is my chance to show the world my ability,” Glanton declared.
Fielding returns after a three-year break, knowing victory over Glanton would restore his status and place him among top contenders in the cruiserweight division.
The UK-born fighter has previously faced Canelo Alvarez, Callum Smith, and John Ryder.
At 6’1”, Fielding believes the extra weight at cruiserweight will fuel him towards world title ambitions.
“After three years out, I’m back with fire to reclaim my place. Beating Glanton in Lagos will prove I’m ready for a title shot,” Fielding said.
In the co-main event, African great and former IBF World Champion Richard Commey (30-5-1, 27 KOs) will battle Ray Seitzhanov.
Commey, who has faced Vasyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez, seeks redemption, though he faces a hungry opponent in Seitzhanov (13-1, 9 KOs).
Former British, Commonwealth and European Champion Dan Azeez (21-2-1, 13 KOs) will also fight in Nigeria for the first time, honouring his heritage.
“Fighting in Nigeria on Independence Day is a dream come true. This is for my heritage, my people, and my pride,” Azeez said.
African sensation ‘The Soldier’ Elvis Ahorgah (14-4, 13 KOs) is also on the bill, fresh from battles with Callum Simpson and Tyler Denny.
Nigeria’s Basit Adebayo (9-0, 4 KOs) will face Tanzania’s Tony Rashid (17-4-3, 11 KOs) for the WBO Africa Title.
Kerem Ozman (5-0) and Tosin Osaigbovo (12-0, 8 KOs) will clash in a battle of the undefeated. Yusuf Adeniji (12-0, 10 KOs) will also feature.
Former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua and reigning champion Moses Itauma are expected to grace the event.
The boxing extravaganza, titled Chaos in the Ring, will hold at the Balmoral Event Centre, Victoria Island, and promises to be a landmark in Nigeria’s boxing history. (NAN)
