The protesting Kano women
Married women in the Kofar Mata axis of the Kano Municipal Local Government Area (LGA) have staged a protest over repeated attacks and killings allegedly carried out by local thugs known as Yan Daba.
The married women marched through key streets with placards calling on the Kano State Government and security agencies to swiftly intervene and restore peace in the troubled neighborhood.
“This has gone on for too long. The thugs from Zango and Kofar Mata have been clashing for nearly a week. It’s getting worse. Two boys have already been killed, and many more are injured. We’re tired of living in fear,” a resident told our correspondent under anonymity due to safety concerns.
The clashes often erupt suddenly, with gang members attacking individuals, looting shops, and wreaking havoc in broad daylight.
The protest underscores a broader insecurity crisis in Kano, with residents demanding urgent action to restore peace and security in their community.
The women are urging the authorities to take immediate action to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents. The protest highlights the need for effective measures to tackle gang-related violence and restore peace in Kofar Mata and other affected areas in Kano. (Nigerian Tribune)
