Manchester United’s latest signing Bryan Mbeumo has listed Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman amongst Africa’s current best players whilst omitting Victor Osimhen from his top three, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 25-year-old Cameroon international completed his move to Old Trafford after five years with Brentford, where he scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in 38 Premier League games last season.

When asked to name the top three African players at present, Mbeumo picked Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah, Atalanta’s Lookman, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi.

“For now, Salah, Lookman, and Achraf Hakimi. He’s the best right back in the world,” Mbeumo said in an interview with Rio Ferdinand.

The former Brentford winger also named his top three African players of all time, selecting Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o and Ivory Coast duo Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure.

“Of course, I looked up to Eto’o. He’s a striker as well. He was scoring goals as well, and that was what I wanted to do when I was young,” Mbeumo said.

Lookman was crowned the 2024 African Player of the Year after winning the UEFA Europa League with Atalanta and reaching the AFCON 2023 final with the Super Eagles.

Mbeumo, who switched from France to represent Cameroon in 2022, has scored six goals in 22 caps for the Lions.(PUNCH)
