Obosi youths during the march
By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE
As has become their custom, Obosi youths recently undertook a procession through the streets of Obosi inland town, chanting slogans against crimes and denouncing perpetrators of criminal acts in the ancient Obosi kingdom.
The third edition of the march against perpetrators of crimes in Obosi, which took place in Obosi inland town on July 28, 2025, had this theme: “See Something, Say Something”.
The marchers numbering over a hundred gathered at Obosi Town Hall from where they took off under the leadership of the Obosi Development Union (ODU) President General, Barr. Chimezie Obi, visiting all the known hideouts of criminal elements in the town.
With public address system mounted on a bus, the announcer, Humphrey Okoye, belted out anti-crime slogans, warning drug addicts, dealers in hard drugs, rapists, shoplifters, pickpockets, grifters, kidnappers, and armed robbers to leave Obosi; otherwise, the full weight of the law would be visited on them.
Members of Obosi Central Security outfit, personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, and members of the Movement Against Cultism in Obosi (MACCOB) led by Hon. Ozichukwu Anyafulu, who is the Councillor for Obosi ward, participated in the march.
During the march, ODU President General, Barr. Chimezie Obi restated the determination of the Obosi people to chase criminal elements away from Obosi so as to make the town attractive to investors, industrialists, and tourists.
“The traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), members of the executive of Obosi Development Union (ODU) , the Obosi people in the Diaspora, and all Obosi people do not want criminal elements in Obosi.
“We want our Obosi to be a safe and secure town in which people can live and carry out their daily activities, peacefully, without fear for their safety.
“Obosi will witness accelerated economic and infrastructural development if we rid it of criminal elements,” Obi said.
In his own remarks, while addressing the marchers, who made a stop at his hotel, Chief Sunny Ebunam threw his weight behind the marchers and expressed optimism that a crime-free Obosi is achievable.
“I am wholly supportive of what you are doing to root out crimes in Obosi.
“A crime-free Obosi in which we can sleep with our two eyes closed is achievable.
“More so, I would like you to know that a safe and secure Obosi is a fillip for our town’s economic and infrastructural development,” Chief Ebunam said.
The marchers, also, made a stop at the palace of Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III) , who is the traditional ruler of Obosi and the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council.
