WAFCON: President Tinubu to host Super Falcons in Abuja on Monday

The victorious Super Falcons lift the WAFCON trophy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will host Nigeria’s victorious Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, following their dramatic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Super Falcons staged a thrilling comeback to defeat host Morocco 3-2 at the Stade Olympique in Rabat on Saturday night, clinching a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

In addition to lifting the trophy, the Nigerian team dominated the individual honours; Rasheedat Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament, Chiamaka Nnadozie won Goalkeeper of the Tournament, and Coach Justin Madugu was crowned Coach of the Tournament.

The team is scheduled to arrive in Abuja on Monday around 12 pm, landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the squad will then proceed in an open-roof bus parade through key areas of the capital, allowing fans a rare chance to see the WAFCON trophy up close.

“We are making arrangements to have a trophy parade with the players and their coaches in an open-roof bus, plying through Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market areas en route to the Presidential Villa,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.

“This will afford many Nigerians a rare view of the Women’s AFCON trophy.”

The reception at Aso Rock will celebrate the team’s achievements and reaffirm the government’s support for women’s football development in Nigeria. (BusinessDay)
