Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused a Nigeria Police Force officer of stealing his AI Rayban glasses during Monday’s protest at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The protest, which was led by Sowore, other activists alongside retired police officers, was aimed at demanding improved welfare and the removal of retirees from the contributory pension scheme.
In a post shared on his verified social media account, Sowore alleged that the officer, dressed in mufti, was caught on camera committing the act.
“This Nigeria Police Force officer, dressed in mufti, stole my AI Rayban glasses at the Force headquarters during #PoliceProtest today. His superiors are shielding him. Please DM if you know his name and rank as soon as possible!,” Sowore posted.
The protest, which has been drawing participants from across the country, was marked by chants and placards demanding justice for retired officers, many of whom claim to have been shortchanged by the current pension arrangement.
While the police have yet to issue an official response to the theft allegation, the incident has sparked reactions online, with supporters of Sowore calling for transparency and accountability.
The protest itself faced resistance from police authorities, but was conducted peacefully under supervision. (Daily Trust)
