Tragedy has been recorded at an Abia-based Chinese firm, Inner Galaxy Steel Company, as one of the workers fell to his death while on duty.
A report rights group, the Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD), identified the victim as Mr. Oto Obong Uwem, “a young welder working in the casting department as an electrician.”
“Mr. Uwem, who died on Thursday, 26 June 2025, reportedly fell from an elevated section of the building while welding,” FENRAD said in a report co-signed by the Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, and Head of Litigation & Corporate Accountability, Barr. Femisi Akande.
The rights group, which is based in Abia, described Mr. Uwem’s passing as a “tragic and avoidable death”.
Inner Galaxy Steel Company, which operates from Ukwa West Local Government Area, has yet to comment on the tragic incident.
