The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, an apex pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, has condemned the gruesome killing of 13 Ebonyi indigenes in Ogboji community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra.
The group urged police to go after the perpetrators and bring them to book.
This is contained in a statement by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Sen. Azuta Mbata through the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, on Friday in Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that unidentified gunmen on Monday, invaded Ogboji community, killing 13 indigenes of Ebonyi while they were having a meeting.
Mbata, while emphasising the sanctity of human life, lamented that the dastardly act had left “our people and every rational mind with a rude shock.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo sees this unprovoked killings as callous, barbaric, ungodly and an abomination which amounts to the desecration of our land,” he stated.
He urged the government of Anambra and security agencies, especially the police to launch a manhunt to enable them unmask the vicious actors behind the heinous incident for prosecution.
The Igbo leader conveyed Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s condolences to the bereaved families, the Governor of Ebonyi, Chief Francis Nwifuru, and the good people of Ebonyi. (NAN)
