The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially outlined the requirements for clubs hoping to participate in the 2025/2026 Inter-Club Competitions, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Four Nigerian clubs, Remo Stars, Rivers United, Abia Warriors, and Kwara United, have secured the right to represent the country in the prestigious tournaments.
To be eligible, CAF has set the following criteria for participating clubs: 1. Must compete in a national league recognized by CAF
2. Home stadium must have a minimum seating capacity of 10,000
3. The club must be officially registered with its national football association
4. Club statutes must align with CAF regulations
5. Demonstrate stable and transparent financial operations
6. No outstanding debts to players, staff, or creditors
7. Present a clear financial plan and operational budget
8. Free from ongoing legal disputes
9. Have a system to manage conflicts of interest
10. Adhere strictly to CAF transfer regulations
11. Maintain functional youth development teams (U20 and U17)
12. The head coach must possess a valid CAF A coaching license
13. Operate an active senior women’s football team
However, CAF has provided flexibility regarding women’s football.
Clubs without a senior women’s team can still meet the requirement by partnering with an existing women’s club and submitting a formal partnership agreement to CAF. (BSN)
