A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ikechi Emenike, has filed contempt proceedings against the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayode, for alleged disobedience of a court order on an Abuja property.

Emenike’s application before a Federal High Court in Abuja, brought through his lawyer, Obi Nwakor Esq, asking the court to commit the EFCC boss to prison on account of his alleged disobedience of order to restore him to the property on House 6, Aso Drive, Abuja, was dated June 24 and made available yesterday.

Justice Musa Liman had refused EFCC’s fresh application for the stay of execution of the judgement for suppression of material facts and misrepresentations of facts related to the matter.

The judge also criticised the EFCC for chasing away the court’s bailiffs from serving the notice of the order.

This followed Emenike’s application, informing the court that the anti-graft agency failed to disclose that he had been paying rent to it for the property, which he had been occupying for over 10 years and had obtained an order for first refusal in the sale of the house said to have been recovered from proceeds of corruption.

Reacting, the spokesman for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, denied any act of disobedience of court order on their part, maintaining that the commission has not announced or indicated any readiness for the disposal of the said property.

“Till date, the commission has not announced or indicated any readiness for the disposal of the property. Enenike’s right of first refusal can, therefore, not hold any water,” he said.

It read, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to some media reports insinuating that it disobeyed an order of Justice Musa Liman of the Federal High Court, Abuja, directing its operatives to vacate a property situated at House 6, Aso Drive, Asokoro, Abuja.”

He reiterated EFCC’s respect for the rule of law, and no claim of disobedience of court order can stand against it, since the court granted an order of possession of the property to the commission on March 27, 2025. (Daily Trust)
