IED explosion
A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed four persons and injured 21 others on Friday, along the Katarko-Goniri Road in the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The victims, mostly from the Gotala Community, were on their way to the popular Buniyadi market when their vehicle stepped on the suspected IED.
During a visit to Damaturu Specialist Hospital by Channels Television’s correspondent observed that the corpses of the four persons killed in the explosion had been taken home for burial while the others are receiving medical treatment at the specialist hospital and Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu, respectively.
The Gotala community Is located at the fringes of the Sambisa forest where the suspected Boko haram insurgents have been operating for the past one and a half decades.
Another unconfirmed source told our correspondent that vigilantes and military vehicles had also run over the buried IED yesterday along the same route with scores either killed or injured.
As of the time of filling this report, the military has yet to issue any press statement.
The relations of the victims interviewed at the hospitals called on the Yobe State Government to as a matter of urgency reconstruct the dilapidated road to avert the activities of the insurgents as lives of the communities and the military formation at Goniri are at high risk. (Channels TV)
