A Police Inspector on special duty in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State, has reportedly taken his own life.
A report by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama quoted reliable sources as disclosing that the incident occurred at about 1:50 a.m. yesterday, Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The victim was identified as Inspector Bassey Asuquo, with a member of the 28 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Umuahia, Abia State.
The officer, according to a report posted on zagazola.org, had been reported to be behaving abnormally before the incident.
“As a precautionary measure, his Unit Commander reportedly directed that Inspector Asuquo’s rifle be retrieved and kept in the armoury at the Sarkin-Pawa Police Division.
“However, further investigation revealed that the deceased officer gained access to a rifle belonging to another officer who was asleep at the time. Asuquo allegedly took the weapon and fatally shot himself in the head.
“His remains were deposited at the General Hospital Sarkin-Pawa, while Inspector Titus Bulus has been taken into custody for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation,” Zagazola reported.
