Electrocution scene, used for illustration purposes only
Two officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) have been reportedly electrocuted at Ubeji and Otokutu communities in Warri South and Ughelli South Local Government Areas of Delta State, respectively.
It was gathered that both incidents occurred while the deceased were trying to disconnect residents’ homes that were yet to pay their electricity bills.
One of the unfortunate incidents occurred along Jeddo Street, Otokutu, while the other took place near Nintendo Hotel, Ubeji.
It was, however, learnt that the Ubeji victim was only an attachée worker with the BEDC.
Video clips of both tragedies that were seen by this reporter showed residents making frantic efforts to rescue the duo, just as women screamed out of fear in the background.
Efforts to get insight into the cause of electrocution was futile as of the time of filing this report.
Repeated calls to BEDC Communications official in Warri, Helen Ogagarue, said her line was switched off.
On the other hand, the Delta State Police Command, through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the case was not reported. (The Nation)
