By WANDOO SOMBO
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) on Wednesday, arraigned Mrs Rebecca Godwin-Isaac Omokamob in the Federal High Court, Abuja over alleged land fraud.
Omokamo also known as Bilikisu Ishaku-Aliyu was charged following a petition by a 79-year-old widow, Mrs Colleen Yesufu whose lands were affected.
Omokamo was docked alongside her husband, Isaac Yusuf-Ishaku, their company, Homadil Realty Limited as well as Idakwogi John and a firm, Rychardo Homes Ltd.
Omokamo was arraigned in two separate lawsuits; The first, with her husband, Isaac-Aliyu and their company as co-defendants while the second was with John.
The first charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/77/2025, contained five counts while the second charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/76/2025, had 17 counts.
The anti-graft agency alleged that the defendants had between 2023 and 2024, collected over N500 million from multiple victims and laundered the funds through accounts of various companies.
In the charge, the EFCC accused the defendants of using forged documents, including a fake power of attorney to claim ownership of plots of land at Guzape and Katampe areas of Abuja.
The agency further alleged that the first defendant used forged documents to secure a building permit from the FCT Department of Development Control and sold the land to a buyer for N70 million.
It also accused the defendants of obtaining by false pretense, ownership and title over plot 1861, 1862 and 1863, Cadastral Zone, B07, Katampe District, Abuja, and thereby induced several unsuspecting individuals to part with money for the acquisition of the said property, knowing same to be false.
The EFCC said that the defendants, by their actions, committed offences contrary to Section 8(a) and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud & other Related Offences Act, 2006.
The defendants were admitted to bail in the sum of N10 million each and two sureties in like sum after they pleaded “not guilty” to the charge preferred against.
The trial judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik held that the sureties must be civil servants not below grade level 16, adding that they must attach evidence of their salaries for the past three months.
She also ordered the sureties to depose to an affidavit of means.
She further ordered the defendants to surrender their international passports to the court and not travel outside the country without permission.
The court ordered that the defendants be remanded pending when they would perfect the terms of their bail.
The judge adjourned the matter until July 21 for trial to begin. (NAN)
