Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Having completed the rounds of my consultations as your servant, I have therefore decided to progressivesly moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the governor said at a press conference in Uyo, the state capital, on Friday afternoon, June 6, 2025.
“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness, we are joining the APC from a position of strength,” he added.
Eno said he decided to join the APC to fully support the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu.
He assured residents that his administration remains committed to serving all citizens, regardless of party affiliation.
The defection event was attended by several APC governors, including Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as well as Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Bassey Otu (Cross River), among others.
Eno’s defection came some six weeks after his Delta State counterpart, Sheriff Oborevwori, left the PDP for the APC. (Pieced together from reports by Channels TV and Nigerian Tribune)
