Some residents of Atakumosa East Local Government Area in Osun, Wednesday, embarked on a protest against the alleged unlawful arrest of five suspects by the Amotekun Corps in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the residents from Itaapa community, who gathered at the Amotekun Corps headquarters in Osogbo, condemned the continued detention of the suspects.

NAN further reports that the protest led to serious gridlock on the road where the office of the corps is located before normalcy was restored .

Reacting to the development, the spokesperson of Amotekun, Mr Yusuf Idowu , said a gang of five suspected criminals was arrested in Itaapa community in Atakumosa after credible information.

Idowu said that the suspects were apprehended on May 29 at about 8:45p.m. in Atakumosa in possession of some dangerous weapons and charms .

He said that the suspects had been unleashing terror on residents of the town before the Amotekun corps arrested them.

“Some exhibits were recovered from them including a pump action gun and charms,” Idowu said .

He said that some victims of attacks by the gang have come forward to identify the suspects and make useful statements while investigations were ongoing.

”The five suspected criminals would appear in court soon to ensure justice is served.”

Idowu urged the public to support the Amotekun Corps with credible and reliable information on criminal hideouts in order to make the state safe. (NAN)
