Anambra sports writers condole Kano over heartbreaking death of athletes returning from National Sports Festival

Members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter have extended their heartfelt condolences to the people of Kano state over the ghastly auto crash involving some members of the state contingent.

It was gathered that no fewer than 20 members of the team which include, administrators, athletes, medical personnel, and journalists lost their lives in the accident while others sustained varying degrees of injury.

The contingent were said to be returning back to base from the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) held in Abeokuta, Ogun in a 30-seater bus when the accident happened.

Anambra SWAN Chapter in a statement signed by the Chairman, Chimezie Anaso and secretary respectively, described the tragedy as heartbreaking and unfortunate.

The Statement read in part, “Members of Sports Association of Nigeria in Anambra State received the news of the fatal crash involving some members of Kano State team who were returning home from the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the auto crash. This is a tragedy too heavy to the heart to bear, considering that they had just finished from the festival where they not only proved their mettle in their various events but also good Ambassadors of Kano.

“We join the people of Kano, especially sports journalists in Kano, to mourn this irreparable loss and pray that God will forgive their sins and grant them eternal rest.”

“We also for speedy recovery for those who were injured in the incident,” it said.
