Senate President Godswill Akpabio speaking at the closing ceremony of the NSF hosted by Ogun State
Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday praised “Honourable Minister of Sports, Distinguished Senator John Owan Enoh, and the entire Ministry of Sports” for organising a vibrant and flawless National Sports Festival (NSF).
Akpabio stated this in a speech delivered at the closing ceremony of the NSF hosted by Ogun State on Thursday, which was posted on his verified Facebook page on Friday morning and sighted by this reporter.
The only challenge: Enoh ceased being sports minister in October 2024 when President Bola Tinubu scrapped the Ministry of Sports, which was replaced by the newly established National Sports Commission (NSC).
Former LMC-NPFL Chairman, Shehu Dikko, was also appointed as the commission’s chairman.
Akpabio’s gaffe caught the attention of eagle-eyed netizens and sports journalists, with some taking to the comment section of the Facebook post to point out the error.
The post has since been edited to erase the error.
Meanwhile, Delta State maintained its dominance as the powerhouse of sports in Nigeria as Team Delta emerged overall winner for the sixth consecutive time.
Team Delta clinched the top spot with a total of 244 medals – 109 gold, 75 silver, and 60 bronze.
Bayelsa followed closely in second place with 189 medals – 99 gold, 68 silver, and 22 bronze.
Host state, Ogun, won 179 medals – 64 gold, 69 silver, and 46 bronze, finishing in third place. (Daily Sun)
