FG redeploys 100 senior treasury officers in shake-up

Shamsuddeen Ogunjimi, Accountant-General of the Federation

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) has redeployed 100 senior Treasury Officers to various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across Nigeria.

The redeployment, which affects officers between the ranks of directors and assistant directors, was announced in a circular dated Friday, May 23, 2025, and signed by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsuddeen Ogunjimi. The directive takes immediate effect.

According to the official circular sighted by our Correspondent on Saturday, the exercise was designed to rejig the financial operations across MDAs for improved performance and greater efficiency in service delivery.

“Further to the need to rejig financial operations of Ministries, Departments and Agencies for improved performance and to enhance greater efficiency in service delivery, the posting of the underlisted Directors Cadre officers under the pool of the Accountant-General of the Federation is hereby approved immediate implementation,” the circular titled ‘Posting of Treasury Officers,” read in part.

All affected officers have been instructed to assume their new postings by Wednesday, June 2, 2025, and submit their Assumption of Duty Certificates to the Office of the Accountant-General no later than that same day.

The postings involve key directorate-level officials and cover a wide range of strategic federal institutions.

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation itself will receive the highest number of incoming officers, with 21 redeployed into major departments such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), Funds, Inspectorate, Research & Investigation, Special Duties, and the Federal Project Financial Management Department.

Other MDAs receiving redeployed officers include the Federal Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Nigeria Police Force, and the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, among others.

The circular stressed the importance of full compliance with the redeployment order, warning that any agency that refuses to allow redeployed officers to take up their new roles would face serious consequences.

“MDAs who refuse and prevent the newly deployed Treasury Officers from assuming duties shall have their accounts and access rights on both the GIFMIS application and Remita payment gateway blocked,” the circular stated.

The Accountant-General also cited the Public Service Rule 100301(b), which prescribes disciplinary action against MDAs or officials that obstruct lawful administrative postings and redeployments.

This large-scale posting is part of the federal government’s broader strategy to strengthen internal financial controls, eliminate systemic inefficiencies, and enhance transparency and accountability in public sector financial management.

Industry observers see the move as a proactive step towards revitalising treasury operations and improving service delivery in line with the fiscal reform agenda of the Tinubu administration. (LEADERSHIP)
