Kaduna SEMA Executive Secretary, Dr Usman Mazadu

The Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Usman Mazadu, has assured that adequate measures have been taken to mitigate the impact of flooding in the state during the 2025 rainy season.
Mazadu said this in Kaduna on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the agency’s preparedness for any emergencies and ongoing sensitisation in flood-prone areas.
He said that the measures were in line with the directive of Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State to prioritise the safety of residents, especially in communities predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency(NiMet) to experience flooding.
“The state government has provided camping materials for Safe Haven Centres across the 13 Local Government Areas identified as high-risk by NiMet.
“In addition, we have made provision for adequate food supplies at the centres and stockpiled relief materials to respond swiftly to any natural disaster,” he said.
The SEMA boss said the agency had been carrying out flood sensitisation campaigns in vulnerable communities for the past six weeks.
He urged residents to avoid building or dumping refuse in waterways and riverbanks, which could worsen flooding.
“We appeal to citizens to support the efforts of the government by adhering to safety guidelines and helping to protect lives and property,” Mazadu said. (NAN)
