Nigeria is set to host representatives from about 20 countries for the 2025 International Qur’anic recitation competition scheduled to take place in August.
Alhaji Muhammad Adam-Alkali, a former lawmaker, who represented Bassa and Jos North Federal Constituency in Plateau, announced this in a statement issued in Katsina on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the statement was signed by Mallam Muhammad Bashir, the Public Relations Officer, National Council for Orphans’ Qur’anic Recitation Competition.
Adam-Alkali, who is the sponsor of the event, explained that the competition would kick off in Jos, Plateau, with the finals taking place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
He expressed his gratitude for the robust support received from the Centre for Islamic Studies at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
He said that the event’s mission was to promote Islamic values and foster unity, affirming that the Holy Qur’an serves as the ultimate guide for any Muslim striving for a meaningful life.
Adam-Alkali acknowledged the previous attempts by Nigerians to organise similar competition, which faced challenges but paved the way for this long-awaited event.
He assured the stakeholders that he would continue to engage them actively to guarantee a successful and memorable competition.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Gwani Sadiq Zamfara, outlined the significant progress made thus far, ensuring that all preparations were in place for a seamless event.
He extended heartfelt thanks to the sponsor for his unwavering dedication and commitment to bringing this vision to fruition.
According to him, countries expected to participate include the host Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Chad, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Niger, Egypt, and Morocco.
According to him, others are Libya, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, England, United Arab Emirate (UAE), and the United States of America (USA).
He explained that each country would send male and female participants, along with their officials, showcasing the richness of the global Islamic community. (NAN)
