The CBC and CTV broadcasters are projecting that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party has won Monday’s general election, but it’s not yet clear if he will form a minority or majority government.
The projections come shortly after polls closed across Canada, in a pivotal election that has been overshadowed by US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and a high cost of living.
Carney ran a tight race against the opposition Conservative Party’s Pierre Poilievre.
Ahead of the election, polls showed the Liberals leading with nearly 43 percent, above Conservatives at just more than 39 percent, according to a CBC tracker. The New Democratic Party was polling third at about 9 percent, followed by Bloc Quebecois at 6 percent. (Al Jazeera)
