An American was arrested for allegedly traveling to an island in the Bay of Bengal that is home to an isolated tribe.
Authorities said Mykhailo Viktor Boyce Polyakov made the trip, which is prohibited by Indian law, late last month.
It is forbidden to be in contact with them because they lack immunity to modern illnesses.
The head of the local police’s criminal investigations department said it appears the 24-year-old Polyakov did not associate with anyone on the island.
The U.S. State Department said it is aware of the reported detention but did not make an additional comment.
The Sentinelese tribe has rarely interacted with the modern world and is known to reject outsiders.
