… Hails integrative spirit behind fiesta

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has received the symbolic torch to kick-start the Niger Delta Sports Festival taking place in Uyo.

Receiving the torch from renowned Olympic medalist Mr. Aniefiok Udobong at Government House, Uyo, on Wednesday Governor Eno expressed appreciation for the privilege accorded to the State by the Niger Delta Development Commission to host the festival.

He acknowledged the positive impact of the event on the state, emphasizing that the regional sports festival would serve as a platform for discovering new talents.

“I deeply appreciate the integrative nature of the sports festival, as it will help unite and bring the entire region together for our common good,” he said.

The Governor, who was visibly excited to receive the sports festival torch, had members of the State Executive Council present to witness the symbolic event marking the commencement of the festival.

The Chairman of the festival planning committee, Mr. Alabo Boma Iyaye, noted that the sports fiesta is the first of its kind in the South-South region of Nigeria.

Mr. Iyaye disclosed that the event would feature over 4,000 athletes from Niger Delta States competing in various sporting disciplines for medals.
