Why Muhammadu Sanusi returned as Emir of Kano — Governor

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has declared that his administration deemed it fit to reinstate Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the 16th emir of Kano due to his sterling leadership quality.

Yusuf disclosed that Sanusi was found worthy to occupy the palace of the Dabon dynasty considering his vast knowledge of Islamic rites and better understanding of modern-day reality.

The Governor made the remark on Tuesday when he received the emir and his entourage on traditional Hauwa Nassarawa homage at the Government House.

“Since he came he has been leading us in prayers, unlike many Emirs. When we look at formal education, he has all it takes to be everywhere. An emir who loves his people,” Yusuf said.

He said since his return to the palace, Sanusi has united the emirate council and Islamic sets, while leading the vanguard against social vices in Kano.

The governor used the occasion to reiterate the impact of his developmental project and added that efforts to transform Kano into a mega city are yielding results.

He maintained that a similar gesture is being extended to local government administration to ensure the dividend of democracy reaches the grassroot.

Earlier, Sanusi commended the government and state House of Assembly for reinstating him to the throne.

While applauding the state’s giant stride on human development, the emir urged the local government chairmen to step up their games towards better living conditions at the grassroot.

Meanwhile, Emir Sanusi II has returned to the 1903 traditional Hauwa Nassarawa homage, a cherished cultural heritage to Governor Yusuf.

In compliance with the prohibition of Sallah Durbar to avoid security breach, the former Central Bank Governor abandoned the horse ride procession and drove on a vehicle convoy to the Government House.

Sanusi also diverted his movement from the normal State road routes to the Government House, to avoid a possible clash of interest. (The Guardian)
