Tongues wag as El-Rufai meets Aregbesola, Atiku, other opponents of Tinubu

El-Rufai and Aregbesola met over the weekend

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, is back in the news.

The development comes as El-Rufai visited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and Pastor Tunde Bakare.

In a post via X on Sunday, Atiku disclosed that he met with El-Rufai alongside former Adamawa state governor, Jibrilla Bindow.

“After tonight’s Itfar (breaking of fast), I received in audience, former Governor of Kaduna State, @elrufai, former Governor of Adamawa, Jibrilla Bindow and Musa Halilu, Dujima Adamawa. Our robust discussions were the dessert of the meal,” he wrote.

Before his visit to Atiku, the former Kaduna governor had visited Aregbesola and Bakare in Lagos.

Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai’s media adviser, revealed this on X.

“Malam Nasir @elrufai was in Lagos today to visit Ogbeni @raufaregbesola and Pastor Tunde Bakare,” Adekeye tweeted.

El-Rufai’s latest meetings come days after he also paid a visit to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna.

This has sparked fresh speculation about his political future and possible strategic alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

Aregbesola, a two-term governor of Osun State and former ally of President Bola Tinubu, was recently sanctioned by a fsvg the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following a protracted crisis within the party in Osun State.

Bakare, on the other hand, is a prominent political figure and a former presidential aspirant under APC.

On Saturday, Atiku renewed his support for a coalition of political parties to defeat the APC in 2027.

Recently, various reports suggested that Atiku was considering leaving the PDP in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.

He was finalising moves to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), according to the reports.

Reacting in a statement Atiku’s media office said the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 elections remains a bonafide member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While describing the reports as a “fallacy”, the media office urged Nigerians to disregard them.

The media office said Abubakar has persistently called for a coalition of opposition political parties in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election to oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, Nigerians reacted to El-Rufai latest visits in a series of tweets.

Tweeting via @OyebadeSw, a user wrote, “I keep wondering why we Nigerians need to know when former governors,Vice president and other politicians meet. What is it to us, when we don’t know to topic of there meets. I am open to learn the importance of sharing the meet with Nigerians. Have a great night Sirs.”

@YakubTijani2: “Wow! What a political tsunami! These people will command millions of votes in the south west. Tinubu and his APC gangs will be sweating profusely.”

@ishodedayomi: “Let him continue to run from poll to post. He can only try,but they will all fail woefully at the end.”

@BabaSammy66471: “Nobody in Yorubaland will take Bakare serious. Let him face the work of the ministry and advocate for the stoppage the killings of Christians in the North and Syria.”

@RabiuDanladiMu1: “Malam is actually building some bridges against the 2027 election. We’re patiently waiting for Escobar Pablo comes 2027??” (Daily Trust)
